Surface structure of C„100...-„231...-H studied by a quantitative LEED analysis

چکیده
The structure of the hydrogen terminated, (231) reconstructed diamond ~100! surface has been investigated by low-energy electron-diffraction ~LEED! intensity versus energy @I(E)# measurements in combination with tensor LEED calculations. It has been found that the surface corresponds to the formation of symmetric dimers on the top C layer, with a dimer length of 1.60 Å. The top layer shows slight inward relaxation; the interlayer spacing between the first and second C layers reduces to 0.81 Å, which corresponds to an ;7% contraction compared to the bulk value. The structural details of the first four carbon layers have been determined and are compared to those given by theoretical calculations. @S0163-1829~99!00715-8#

Structure and geometry of water adsorbed on the MgO(100) surface
Adsorption of DzO on the MgO(100)/Mo(100) surface has been studied using temperature programmed desorption (TPD), reflection absorption infrared spectroscopy (RAIRS) and low energy electron diffraction (LEED). The epitaxially grown MgO(100) films show virtually identical water TPD spectra as the single crystal MgO(100) surface. The first, chemisorbed layer is adsorbed with the plane of the mole...
متن کاملSURFACE SCIENCE LETTERS STRUCTURE OF THE CLEAN Ta(100) SURFACE A. TITOV and W. MORITZ
The clean Ta(100) surface and some aspects of hydrogen adsorption have been studied by LEED and AES. The thorough examination of LEED patterns did not provide any evidence for an atomic reconstruction of the clean surface over the entire temperature range investigated, 150-600 K. The r-factor analysis used for comparison between measured and calculated IV spectra yields a contraction of the top...
متن کاملOxygen-induced p(3×1) reconstruction of the W(100) surface
The oxidation of the W(100) surface at elevated temperatures has been studied using room temperature STM and LEED. High exposure of the clean surface to O2 at 1500 K followed by flash-annealing to 2300 K in UHV results in the formation of a novel p(3×1) reconstruction, which is imaged by STM as a missing-row structure on the surface. Upon further annealing in UHV, this surface develops a floret...
متن کاملStructural studies of sulfur-passivated GaAs (100) surfaces with LEED and AFM
We present the results of Auger electron spectroscopy (AES), low-energy electron diffraction (LEED) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) analysis of sulfur-passivating layers on the GaAs (100) surface. The GaAs surfaces were passivated with both inorganic 42x and organic [octadecylthiol (ODT)] S-based compounds. We prepared the inorganic sulfur-passivated GaAs(100) surfaces with a wet chemical tre...
متن کاملStructure of Defects at the GaAs(100)-c(8x2) studied by
The structure of the Ga terminated GaAs(100)-c(8x2) surface has been a topic under debate during the last decade. A complex model involving strong reconstructions was recently proposed after extensive Total Energy calculation[1], and was also confirmed by Low Energy Electron Diffraction (LEED) dynamical calculations[1]. Further studies, based on X-ray Diffraction techniques (SXRD), basically co...
